REVISION GUIDE

The purpose of any product or text is to make money.

The film industry is a specialised institution.


  • originated in the late 1800's and they were not popular at first.
  • They were black and white and had no sound at first.
PRIMITIVE FILM: films before hollywood films 
films were first made in hollywood as the lighting was much better than anywhere else.
INDUSTRIALISATION: The process of making something in a factory.
The earlier directors and editors of films were women.
Films were made in factories.

  • Studio systems- warner brothers,universal.
  • Production-when the film is made.
  • Distribution- When the film is released.
  • Conglomaration-



Black panther:
  • Made by Marvel Studios.
  • Distributed by Walt Disney studios motion pictures.
  • 2009 Walt Disney bought Marvel for 4 million dollars.
Disney bought Marvel
-To make more millions than it spent.
-To crush the competition.
-They have similar audiences.
-They have more advertising as they are easily recognised brands.
-Disney then gets rights to all the characters and storylines.

USP- UNIQUE SELLING POINT.

Black panther has a leading black cast.

SHAFT (1971)
this trailer appeals to the working class black male audience as there is violence and action. The audience also want to see a black protagonist who has a semi-ordinary life but with exciting twists. The protagonist is a likeable character and he is quoted saying "he is better than bond". The 1970's black slang make the audience relate and identify with the characters. the setting is in new york in a run down community of black men and families.

Facts This product was launched by Procter and Gamble and soon became a brand leader. 1946 character called 'the housewife' customer had high hopes for the brand  The advert uses the z line theory as the audience would read the text then look at the woman and finally they would look at the cartoon. The colours show a kind of patriotism as the American flag has red white and blue. The red suggests how the woman 'loves' this product. the mode of address for this ad is through many things such as the characters dress or the bold colours that are used or even the repeated 'w' sound. The advert has love hearts over the top of the characters head suggesting that she feels so strongly a feeling love toward the product. the advert is specifically talk to women as an audience as the advert literally says that its what women want.
