producers put their ideologies into media products and the audience decode these.
Different people will read products in different ways, some people will hate some products and some will love products.

John lewis or long road for example are institutions.

Long road is trying to sell itself. It needs to have a USP.
Long road is competing with so many other colleges so they need to be competitive.
DIFFERENTIATION-needs to be different from other colleges
COMPETITION-needs to beat other colleges to gain more students
IDENTIFICATION-describing the college
IDEOLOGY- clear messages of the college and what they want for the audience.

DISSEMINATE- to spread something
So long road is trying to disseminate how good it is and they can do this by having a logo.


SHELL LOGO ANALYSIS


  • red, passion and fire.
  • yellow, fire, new
  • shells are hard and protective, they are normally not red or yellow, they are dull paler colours.
  • the arc is connotative of an ocean so it makes the audience feel relaxed.
  • The logo is a shell as we get fossil fuels from shells and ead sea creatures.

  • Bold and powerful colours
  • There are grooves in the shell and it connotes speed like if you drew a car that was speeding there would be lines coming from the side.
  • if anyone else had those colours then the audience would think of shell
  • Looks like the sunset, romantic.
  • Luxury and sports car colours
  • it has connotations of bigger brands as other companies use these colours, e.g mcdonalds.
  • it needs to be bold and memorable
  • they sell petrol and this has no relation to bold colours apart from the fires that could be lit using there petrol.
  • Childish
  • Bright and optimistic
  • two colours are simple

  • white, pure and natural

  • the crown is symbolic of being the very best
  • simple 2 colours
  • mother nature, gia

  • symmetric
  • no real race ,she could be anyone.
  • coffee not really special apart from the hyped up brand.
  • commodity fetishism (brand obsession)
  • organic
  • mermaid,mystical
